When doing business with a Chinese company you will often be supplied with a China Customs Registration Certificate.

What is a China Customs Registration Certificate?

What Information is Contained in a China Customs Registration Certificate?
On the left-hand side of the certificate the information presented is:
- Customs Registration Number (海关注册登记编码)
- Registration Date (注册登记日期)
- Stamp and Name of Customs Branch
On the right-hand side of the certificate from top to bottom the fields are as follows:
- Company Name (企业名称)
- Company Address (企业地址)
- Legal Representative / Responsible Person (法定代表人/负责人)
- Registered Capital (注册资本)
- Business Scope (经营范围)
- Main Investors’ Names (主要投资者名称)
- Their number of Shares and Percentage (出资额及比例)
Who Issues a China Customs Registration Certificate?
A China Customs Registration Certificate is issued to a company through their local Customs Branch who also give the company an Enterprise Classification.
Chinese Customs are also responsible for issuing Import and Export Licenses which are additionally required for many types of restricted goods.
Who Uses the China Customs Registration Certificate?
This certificate is not required for all Chinese companies; only for those engaged in importing and exporting.
If you are importing products from a Chinese company be sure to check that they have a legitimate China Customs Registration Certificate. Manufacturers not holding this certificate may be using a trading company to export goods.
Note that companies engaging in international trade must also hold a Foreign Trade Registration Certificate. This document is issued by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
